Design1
When I drew fashion designs, there is no example that I can trace them. I extracted shape and colour from my artist research to design in the class. I needed to draw to show my ideas for the design without seeing anything, so I realized again fashion design is not for me. However, I like to do work physically and not digital. I still enjoy drawing when I am able to see the object to reproduce them. I like to expand ideas from what I see. Therefore, making collages were going smoothly, and I was content with my works. I had chosen Utagawa Hiroshige, who is known as the last great master in Japanese traditional woodblock printing. His work imbued the Japanese landscape with a lyricism that drew upon the fleeting nature of sensual pleasure. Due to that, there are no stand-out shapes, which means most of the drawings looked like a rectangle. Therefore, I struggled to trace them. Also, I had no idea how to develop them from quite regular shapes of drawings. As I mentioned before, I can draw if I have photos or objects that I can imitate or inspire the design’s shapes.
I am interested in media and business, not fashion design. I have chosen to do SDS1, which is to repeat the tasks I have done in the class with two more shapes from the research. I can select my shape more carefully to try the different techniques, which means I need to research more about my artist. However, I will still use my collages to keep expanding. In the last Toolbox project, I couldn’t display all of my designs, so I would like to try to express and develop and explore new ideas in my own way.
