Session 12: LFW
Unfortunately, we couldn’t see London fashion week. I would love to go to London Fashion week next year if I have any other chance. Due to that, I checked the collection online. One of the designers Simone Rocha caught my eyes. Surprisingly, she also graduated from the acclaimed Fashion MA at Central Saint Martin’s College, London.
I like how collections have a strong, unique theme and are different from other people’s collections. Models walked the dimly lit grand hall at London’s Inns, which suits her theme. I like how she chose the place to match her collections. She took the Irish fable The Children of Lir as her starting point. It is a dark folk tale that tells the story of the children of an Irish king who were turned into swans by a jealous stepmother. The dark undercurrent added atmosphere and to the surface frills of garments, which came in white, cream and black. The most eye-catching dress appeared embroidered on a chiffon dress with trailing ribbons and feathers. I can see that exaggerated puff sleeves and skirts are featured throughout. One of my favourite parts is that models wore crowns with pearls, which reminds us of Simone Rocha’s ideas and inspiration. According to the article, she said, “A lot of this obviously came from an eternal place.”
