Session2: Creating Looks
The contents of the session were putting together ‘looks’ for fashion styling and trend pages. I am interested in styling, and I thought this task would support all my styling preparation and development throughout the session. Styling was more difficult than I expected, because of that each person had different styles to mine in my group. It was hard to gather their fashion objects to make one unified look. Firstly, I brought many black objects, and other people didn’t bring many objects. I thought it wasn’t enough to combine all of the clothes to styling up. I felt that if I used most of the objects, everything looked like my daily clothes. In addition, one of the students has different ideas and tastes from my friends and me. Therefore, I explained a lot to persuade her, but it wasn’t working for her. I felt whatever people wear, however, we wear it, shows the world the kind of person we are. Fashion is an expression of people’s personalities. It reveals our mood and our characteristics. At times, it may even show people’s cultural and backgrounds.
People usually wear things that define who they are. A fashion statement is a mix of a lot of things. It can be a combination of interests, hobbies, backgrounds, and personalities. Just as I have constantly reiterated, other people’s sense of fashion defines their person. I thought fashion was more than just the clothes that people wear. It can tell the world so much. Due to that, there’s no right answer in fashion. In styling, it is essential to consider when I create the look. If I capture all the elements that make up the entire look, it includes the theme, so I need to think about how to tell the narrative or the story.
